What do we do here?
We are the non-credit division of Athens State University offering the following:

Personal Interest Classes: We offer classes that interest the individual, like Photography, painting, violin, book reviews, yoga, etc. These classes are sometimes called Leisure classes
Professional Development Classes: These are classes that may help you update your skills, classes that offer continuing education credits, certificate programs, and contract trainings specialized for your needs. For information about how to bring classes offered at CLL to your offices, contact Diane Sauers at 256-233-8260.
Rental Spaces: We have spaces to rent for events, board meetings, luncheons, wedding rehearsal dinners, retirement parties, reunions, and more.

We also have a coffee shop and a book store. Stop by the CLL for a personal tour or just drop by to look around.

CLL is self-supporting and all costs are covered through student registration fees.

How long have you been open?
We held our Grand Opening on April 24, 2011.

What was in the building before?
This was formerly the Boys and Girls Clubhouse, The Green Door Antiques, The Denim Shop, Ben Jaffe’s Department Store.

An interesting fact – during the renovation, the original floor was refinished and the original ceiling tiles were kept as much as possible.

How do I sign up for a class?
You can register online, in person, by phone or mail. For more information about registering for classes, go to Ways to Register.

How do I find out what classes you offer?
We publish a catalog four times a year. You can receive our catalog by requesting a catalog or go to our Home page to view the current catalog online. We also send out announcements on facebook (Center for Lifelong Learning at Athens State) and on Twitter (@CLL@ASU). If you are on our mailing list you will receive emails.

Where do you park for classes?
Parking available on the street in front of the building is limited to two hours and is subject to ticketing between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday - Friday. There are public parking spaces at the Municipal Building lot with entrances on Washington and Market Streets and in the lot on Marion Street in front of the C.E.I. Bookstore. These spaces are free and have no time restrictions.

How do we know if class is cancelled for weather?
We will make every effort to let you know that classes are cancelled. In the event of unexpected weather, we will post on Facebook and Twitter right away. Also listen to local radio and television stations for information about closings. CLL will always be closed if Athens State is closed.

Can I get a refund if I can’t come?
If you cannot attend a course as planned, you must notify the Center for Lifelong Learning as soon as possible prior to the first class meeting so that a full refund can be issued. If you withdraw less than four days before the class begins, you will receive a 50% refund. No refunds will be given after a class begins.
