| Redstone Arsenal Extension |
The Athens State University Extension Office is located on Redstone Arsenal in building 3200. All Athens State University students may use the Redstone Arsenal Extension Office to obtain help with registration procedures, counseling, admission procedures and other school business. For further information, contact Charles Sellers or Pat Luke Ragucci at 256-876-7561. Military retired military, their dependents and civil service personnel may register at the extension office during scheduled registration period. Personnel with access to the AUTOVON system may call us directly using the Redstone Arsenal AUTOVON prefix and the extension 7561. It will be in service from 4:15 until 9:45 pm Monday through Thursday nights, and is for emergencies only.
As the result of the 9/11 Terrorist Incident, the Department of Defense has increased security requirements for entrance to Redstone Arsenal. Among the many security precautions taken are the removal of building identifiers and prohibition of specific directions to military facilities on web sites. All students should enter the Arsenal via Gate 9, Research Boulevard. Allow sufficient time for security procedures at the gate. For directions to buildings where classes are held, please contact the Redstone Arsenal Extension Office at 256-876-7561 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. After 5:00 p.m., contact the Evening Staff Assistant at 256-508-2981.
Non Traditional Academic Credit Evaluation of Military Training
Some types of non-traditional academic credit can be processed by the office of Non-Traditional Credit, awarding college equivalent credit for military and/or government training, the documentation requirements and the procedures to be followed are listed below.
Military Training
Academic credit may be awarded to students who have served in the Armed Forces and have completed specialized training, provided the following documentation is available from the solider.
- AARTS Transcript.
- Copies of DD214, DA21 and or DD295.
- Copies of certificates, awards, and/or other related military or government courses of training.
United States Air Force members, whose military experience has been accepted by the Community College of the Air Force, should not apply for non traditional credit but should have transcripts forwarded from CCAF directly to Athens State University, attention Office of Admissions, 300 North Beaty Street Athens, Alabama, 35611.
Military Occupational Specialties (MOS)
Appropriate college credit will be granted based on the exhibit date (the date the course was successfully completed) and the American Council on Education ACE course credit recommendation.
Military and Government Education
Appropriate college credit will be granted based on the date and place the course(s) was taken and the American Council on Education ACE course credit recommendation. Academic credit may be granted at the lower division category (100, 200 level) or at the upper division category (300, 400 level) in accordance with the ACE recommendations. Duplicate credit will not be granted. The decision to accept academic credit for military evaluations toward specific courses in a degree program will be made by the student's academic advisor.
