The Dean of the College of Education at TSU received an invitation for its teacher education program to participate in the Academy. It was clear in the introductory material that participation in the Academy would make online modules available to the College. The content areas for which modules will be developed are detailed, but little information was provided on how faculty members would make use of the modules, the costs to the college as a condition of participation, or how the College would best make a decision on participation. You have been asked by the dean to be the contact person with the Academy and to begin the process of answering the many questions needing to be addressed before the college would made a decision to participate in the Academy and how the Academy modules might be used. You have reviewed the Academy home page and recognize a number of the people involved with the Academy. Your first reaction is that access to online modules might be very helpful, particularly if they are well designed and can effectively teach content that you are now committing course time to. You are sensitive to the growing expectations of what needs to be included in your teacher education program. At the same time the amount of time available to implement the curriculum has systematically been reduced over the past several years. If the modules are effective you believe that you can gain some time in the curriculum to address areas of concern to you for which there currently is not sufficient time to include. The intent of this is to introduce you to the Academy and how the resources of the Academy can be of assistance to you in your teacher education curriculum. |
