Overview of Accommodations and Adaptations

Image 01 Lesson 2 provides an overview of terms used to describe accommodations and adaptations. Consider that Lesson 2 sets the stage for readers’ understanding of terms and applications of concepts. For consistency within this module, several terms are identified but two are featured throughout the module. While several examples of accommodations and adaptations are provided, more depth on selecting and using them is provided in subsequent lessons. Lesson 2 also covers characteristics of learners who require accommodations and adaptations as well as sources that teachers should use to determine which learners have IEPs or Section 504 plans that identify specific accommodations or adaptations required for individual students. Before proceeding to the presentation, be sure to print out the handouts for this lesson.
