Consider the following:
- There is too much to do already during instruction. Now you are adding students with disabilities into my class and expecting me to provide accommodations too?
- Instructional accommodations are meant to help students learn. Why should they be used or carried into assessments?
Accommodations are changes in the way that materials are presented or in the way that students respond, as well as changes in setting, timing, and scheduling. The reason for providing accommodations is that they enable the student to bypass (or, partially bypass) the effects of a disability, so that the student can learn or demonstrate knowledge and skills. The goal of this lesson is to assist you to become a sound decision maker about accommodations, both for instruction and assessment.
Before proceeding to the presentation, be sure to print out the handout for this lesson.
