Athens State University’s Accounting Club recently toured ADTRAN, Inc. in Huntsville, Alabama. The students, along with Professors Corzine, Hammon, Berzett, and Hemingway, toured two of the company’s towers, catching a glimpse into the manufacturing environment for the small electronic parts that are designed and built on-site. At the end of the tour, the company’s controller, Dana Crim, spent time with the group discussing the organization from an accounting perspective and the unique challenges they face in their industry.
A global provider of networking and communications equipment, the company has over 2,500 employees who are hired from both universities and programs created to find excellent high school prospects for careers in computer science. They promote collaboration and creativity by providing common areas for their software developers and accountants. The company paves the way for innovation and research through financial contributions during the patent process.
