Canada by Rail, Branson, and Hawaiian Adventure Trips for 2010 and 2011!!!
The Athens State University Alumni Association and Collette Vacations will be offering a trip to the Canadian Rockies in October 2010, Branson in December 2010, and a Hawaiian Adventure in February 2011.
A nine day trip to Canada is planned for mid October 2010. Leaving via air from Nashville on October 11th and returning on October 19th, travelers will visit Vancouver, Banff and Yoho National Park via The Canadian rails. Relax and discover the delight of overnight traveling with first class meals and awe inspiring Canadian Rockies vistas. Spend the night in the comfort of your own bed inside a private sleeping room that includes a private bath.
A five day Branson Musical Holiday excursion is planned for December 2-6, 2010. Christmas in the Ozarks with performances by The Hughes Brothers, Andy Williams, Doug Gabriel, SIX and Yakov Smirnoff. You’ll also visit Silver Dollar City and enjoy a spectacular paddlewheel riverboat adventure aboard the Showboat Branson Belle.
A ten day trip to the Hawaiian islands of Oahu, Kauai and Maui will take place February 17th-26th, 2011. The trip will visit Pearl Harbor and the USS Arizona Memorial. Travelers will ride an authentic narrow gauge railway through a historic plantation and experience a traditional Polynesian Luau featuring tropical drinks, dinner, music and a hula show.
Tena Bullington, Coordinator of Alumni Affairs states, “We just recently finished a trip to the New England Backroads that was a tremendous success. Our hope is that these two offerings will be as successful.”

Annual Alumni Campus Colloquium
The 2nd Annual Campus Colloquium was held Tuesday, February 16, 2010. The Campus Colloquium is sponsored by the Athens State University Alumni Association and the Athens State University Foundation. The purpose of the one-day event is to 1) act as an academic homecoming for alumni, 2) showcase the expertise of our faculty and staff, 3) create an open-house environment for the community, 4) and inform our faculty, staff, alumni and public of our campus treasures.
The Campus Colloquium will consist of an introduction and welcome by Alumni Association President Anita Raby, followed by four forty-five minute break-out sessions. A box lunch with Dr. Glenn as the speaker will be provided between the second and third sessions. A closing reception will end the day-long event. Continuing Education credits will be available upon request.
Cost for the event and lunch will be: $20 registration fee, $15 for Alumni Association Members and $15 for faculty, staff and students.

A License to Give
Show your pride and support by purchasing an Athens State University license plate. The Athens State plate can be purchased in any county statewide through your license commissioner or probate office. Whether buying or renewing your tags the cost is $50 with $47.50 going directly to Athens State for scholarship funds. It's an easy way to promote the University while on the road and help provide student scholarships.

Annual Alumni Golf Classic
The Athens State University Alumni Golf Classic will be Thursday, May 13, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at the Canebrake Golf Club in Athens.
The Golf Classic was founded in 1992 to provide valuable student scholarship funds. Last year, the Alumni Association awarded more than $15,000 in student scholarships. All of the proceeds raised during the Golf Classic went to support these scholarships.

Annual Alumni Flag Day Ceremony
Athens State University saluted our nation’s flag during the Flag Day ceremony on Friday, June 12, 2009 at 12:00 noon in the ballroom. The Alumni Association served lunch in the annex following the ceremony. This event was free and open to the public.
The 2010 Flag Day Ceremony date is TBA.
Annual Alumni Bridge Benefit
The 2009 Alumni Bridge Benefit was Wednesday, June 17, 2009 from 10:00am-12: 30pm in the Ballroom of the Athens State University Sandridge Student Center. Refreshments were provided as well as door prizes. Special gifts were given to Paula Cox- High Scorer, Myrna Burgreen- 2nd High Scorer and Mildred Johnston- Low scorer.
The 2010 Bridge Benefit date is TBA.
Alumni Tent at the Tennessee Valley Old Time Fiddlers Convention
The 2009 Fiddlers Convention was Friday, October 2-Saturday, October 3, 2009.
The next Fiddlers Convention will be Friday, October 1-Saturday, October 2, 2010. Please stop by the Alumni tent and fill out an update card, renew your Alumni membership or just to say “Hi”. The Alumni Board will be selling merchandise to raise funds for the Alumni Scholarship fund.
Annual Alumni Christmas Concert
The Annual Alumni Christmas Concert in conjunction with the Livingston Concert Lecture Series was held Sunday, December 13, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. in McCandless Hall with a reception following in Founders Hall Parlor. Due to popular demand an additional concert was added on Monday, December 14, 2009 with Mr. Havely’s Community Band. The 2010 concert will be Sunday, December 5, 2010.
Annual 50 Year Club Luncheon
The 50 Year Club met on Saturday, May 2, 2009 to reminisce about years gone by. Dr. Murphree was the guest speaker and the Class of 1959 was recognized. Special recognition was also given to the earliest class member present, the individual who traveled the farthest, and the class with the largest number of returnees. Join us May 2010 when we recognize the class of 1960.
