A License to Give Show your pride and support by purchasing an Athens State University license plate. The Athens State plate can be purchased in any county statewide through your license commissioner or probate office. Whether buying or renewing your tags the cost is $50 with $47.50 going directly to Athens State for scholarship funds. It's an easy way to promote the University while on the road and help provide student scholarships. Founders Hall Brick Sale The Athens State University Alumni Association is sponsoring a Founders Hall Brick Sale. The cost for purchasing a brick is $125.00 with the proceeds going towards funding scholarships at Athens State University.

This brick comes from Founders Hall, built in 1842, on the Athens State University campus. Local Methodist money built the magnificent main building which is one the finest antebellum structures in the South. Those 1842 donors became known as its founders, and the new building became Founders Hall. The original Founders Hall was a 100 by 50 foot two-story central structure of pure Greek revival design. Annual Alumni Golf Classic
Thursday, May 15, 2008 marks the date for the Athens State University Alumni Golf Classic. After a lunch at noon, a shotgun start will kick things off at 1:00pm. The event will be held at the Canebrake Golf Club in Athens.

The Golf Classic was founded to provide valuable student scholarship funds. Last year, the Alumni Association awarded more than $15,000 in student scholarships from monies received from this one event. All of the proceeds raised during the Golf Classic will go to support these scholarships.

The registration fee is $90 for individuals, and $360 for teams of four. The fee includes the greens fee, golf cart, lunch, course refreshments, and hospitality gifts. May 9, 2008 is the deadline for registration and individuals or teams can do so by calling 216-3319 or visiting the Alumni Office in the Sandridge Student Center on the Athens State campus.

Walt Merritt, president of the Alumni Association, states, "There will be ample door prizes for each participant from local merchants, plus exciting skill prizes including a $10,000 hole-in-one prize for a designated hole, closest to the pin on all par 3s, and a "longest drive" prize. First, second and third place teams will also receive awards."

The Golf Classic is open to any interested golfers - not just those who are alumni of Athens State.

Annual Alumni Flag Day Ceremony
Athens State University will salute our nation’s flag during its Flag Day ceremony on Friday, June 13, 2008 at 12:00 noon in the ballroom. The Alumni Association will serve lunch in the annex following the ceremony. This event is free and open to the public.

Annual Alumni Bridge Benefit
The 2008 Alumni Bridge Benefit is scheduled for Wednesday, June 18, 2008 from 10:00am-12: 30pm in the Ballroom of the Athens State University Sandridge Student Center. Refreshments will be provided as well as door prizes. Special gifts will be given to the high, 2nd high and low scorers.

Table reservations are made on a first-come first-serve basis. Tickets are $10 per person, with four people required to make up a table. Reservations must be paid by Monday, June 16, 2008.

Alumni Tent at the Tennessee Valley Old Time Fiddlers Convention
The Fiddlers Convention is scheduled for the first weekend in October. The Alumni tent will be set-up at the Beaty Street entrance on Friday, October 3-Saturday, October 4, 2008.

Stop by and fill out an update card, renew your Alumni membership or just to say “Hi”. The Alumni Board will be selling merchandise to raise funds for the Alumni Scholarship fund.

Annual Alumni Christmas Concert
The Annual Alumni Christmas Concert in conjunction with the Livingston Concert Lecture Series, is scheduled for Sunday, December 7, 2008 in the ballroom of the Sandridge Student Center. The community band will perform at 3:00p.m. with a reception following in Founders Parlour. Donations are welcome.

Annual 50 Year Club Luncheon
The 50 Year Club will meet on Saturday, May 3, 2008 to reminisce about years gone by. Contact the office of Alumni Affairs @ 256-216-3319 for reservation information.
