Criminal Justice

Criminal Justice Program

Athens State University offers a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice for students seeking to enter or advance in the field of criminal justice. A degree in Criminal Justice is also excellent preparation for those choosing to pursue a graduate degree or attend law school.

Criminal Justice is the system that society uses to enforce its laws, adjudicate suspected violators, and correct those found guilty. The criminal justice system currently employs approximately two and a half million people at the local, state and federal levels. The U.S. Department of Labor expects positions in criminal justice to grow at a rate equal to or faster than average over the next decade.

The Criminal Justice Program includes courses in law enforcement, criminology, criminal law, justice process, corrections and juvenile delinquency. There are also courses in government, ethics, and public administration to prepare students for supervisory positions.
