Directors

Dr. Hugh K. Long is an Assistant Professor of English and Drama and the Artistic Director of the Athenian Players at Athens State University. While Dr. Long teaches a variety of dramatic literature, theatre history, acting, and stage combat courses, his first love was performance. As an actor he has been featured in such films as The Fighter, Bewitched, Joe Dirt, and such TV series as Freaks & Geeks, Las Vegas, Arrested Development, and The Closer. He has also worked in Off- Broadway and Regional Theatres in Measure for Measure, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, West Side Story, The Music Man, and Asi Que Pasen Cinco Años.

Travis Sharp (Stage Manager/Music and Sound/Dramaturg) is an English major at Athens State University with a minor in Drama. He will graduate from Athens State University in May 2013 after which he will enter the graduate program in creative writing at the University of Washington. He is currently serving as the stage manager for the Athenian Players.

Players

Jensie Britt is a junior at Athens State University where she is majoring in English Education with a minor in Drama. She has worked on six plays at Northeast Alabama Community College and was in six plays at Scottsboro High school.

Forrest Johnson is a native of Huntsville, Alabama. He is an English major at Athens State University and has aspirations to become a writer. The Glass Menagerie was his first foray into acting and theatre.

Laura Poe is a student at Athens State University where she is majoring in English and minoring in Drama. If you have visited the Athens-Limestone Public Library you might recognize Laura - she is the tall paralibrarian behind the counter. In addition to school and work, she is a wife and mother of three.

Colin Whitworth is an Athens, Al native who has had notable roles on stage, appearing as Seymour Krelborn in Little Shop of Horrors; Emcee (Cabaret), Rooster (Annie), Nicely (Guys and Dolls), Kenickie (Grease), and others for various revues and scenes with Footlights Community Theatre of Athens. He has also appeared on stage as part of Backstage Theatre Company in Decatur, Al. Currently, Colin resides in Tuscaloosa, Al where he is teaching public speaking and working towards a Master’s Degree in Communication Studies at The University of Alabama.

Designers

Kassady Douglas (Technical Director/Lighting Designer) is a sophomore at Calhoun Community College who lives in Madison. She attended Bob Jones High School, where she worked on numerous productions, including serving as student technical director for Metamorphoses, Pretty and Footloose: the Musical. A native of upstate New York, Kassady has also worked with Calhoun Theater working as a set builder and lighting designer and operator. She plans to transfer to University of South Alabama, major in meteorology, and pursue a career as a meteorologist.

Joy Parker, a theatre major, and her mother Cathy (Costumes/Props/House Managers) have worked as costume and prop consultants for Calhoun Community College since 2002. Joy also serves as Dramaturg and Cathy as House Manager for Calhoun. They have a Theatre Troup, The Painted Players, and take Shakespeare into local grammar and middle schools.

Christopher Allan Terry, Jr. (Set Design/Lead Carpenter) is from Danville, Alabama. He has been a student at Calhoun Community College since 2011 and is hoping to transfer to Auburn Univeristy with an Associate's Degree in Architectural Drafting. He is involved in carpentry, design, and construction, and has worked on such plays as Twelfth Night, Murder by Natural Causes, Almost Maine, A Midsummer Night's Dream, and The Glass Menagerie.
