Athens State University hosted its annual Homecoming Celebration and Summer Commencement on Friday, August 4 and Saturday, August 5, 2017 on Founders Green.
Approximately 200 alumni, faculty, family, and friends of Athens State attended the celebration Friday evening. Guests were treated to a delicious, complimentary meal and enjoyed music from The Midnighters, a six-piece band from the Muscle Shoals area.
The following morning, the summer commencement ceremony was held. Hundreds gathered in front of Founders Hall to celebrate the 122 graduates from the Class of 2017 and honor the 50th anniversary of the Class of 1967’s commencement. Mr. Lynn Holladay, Class of 1967 alumnus and former basketball standout, was the guest speaker at the event. Mr. Holladay holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Athens State and focused his career on helping youth, working as a high school teacher, basketball coach, and counselor for 30 years.
Both events were sponsored in part by the Athens State University Alumni Association. Next year’s Homecoming and summer commencement celebrations are scheduled to take place on August 3-4, 2018.
