EgyptomaniaDateline: March 10, 2017 Athens, AL – Dr. Ronald H. Fritze recently released his new book Egyptomania: A History of Fascination, Obsession and Fantasy.  Published by Reaktion Books and distributed in the United States by the University of Chicago Press, Fritze’s book has received much attention from scholars and has been reviewed within a national forum.

In Egyptomania, Fritze takes the reader on a historical journey, exploring the past of Egypt through powerful magic, strange gods and goddesses, pharaohs, and mummified remains of ancient people.  The book also explores the influence Egypt has had on society’s imagination, shaping beliefs of reality and perception.  Fritze wrote the book over a period of five years, collecting as much historical data as possible to thoroughly explore ancient Egypt through Biblical, Roman, and Medieval forces.  He has since been invited to numerous speaking engagements to discuss his work, including the 92nd Street Y in New York City and the Seminary Co-op Bookstore at the University of Chicago.  Fritze will be speaking about the book in the “Faraway Places” lecture series at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky on April 13.

Dr. Ronald H. Fritze is the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and Professor of History at Athens State University.  He is the author of many books, including Invented Knowledge: False History, Fake Science and Pseudo-religions, also published by Reaktion Books.
