The mission of the Accounting Department is to provide programs that prepare our students for careers as professional accountants in public practice, industry, and other areas, and for advancement into graduate programs. We will do this by maintaining high academic standards, superior teaching, significant service, continuous improvement, high ethical standards, and the use of effective technology.
The Accounting program is offered both online and on-campus. The online Accounting option offers the same rigor and quality as the on-campus option with the only difference being that online students are not required to physically be on campus. This is made possible through the use of comprehensive technology, recorded lectures, and a highly skilled faculty committed to the success of our students, both in and out of the classroom.
Students who complete the Accounting major (no minor) will meet all of the requirements to sit for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Exam in the State of Alabama. In addition, students who complete either Accounting major (with minor or without) will meet the requirements to sit for the Certified Management Accountant (CMA), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), and other accounting certifications.
With a wide variety of career options available to accounting graduates, the Accounting Department offers an additional option for accounting majors, “Accounting with Minor.” Under this option, students will take the core accounting requirements and pair them with a minor selected from a variety of fields. This option does not meet the requirements needed to sit for the CPA Exam.
The Accounting Department also offers a Forensic Accounting minor and an Accounting minor. The Accounting minor is available to students with a major outside the Accounting program.
