Bible Study Series: Traditions Behind Paul Letters

As we study Paul's letters we discoverer that there are examples of early Christian tradition that he included in his writings. This study will allow us to look more closely at the traditions that Paul utilized. We will be looking at specific examples from the different letters from Paul. These examples include the kerygma, eucharistic and baptismal formulas, prayers, hymns and words of the Lord.

Love Songs of Elvis and Buddy

Join the Center for Lifelong Learning for our next trip to Montgomery, Alabama.

The Love Songs, starring Elvis Presley tribute artist Scot Bruce and Buddy Holly tribute artist John Mueller, has returned to the Alabama Shakespeare Festival for their annual fundraiser.

This show has traditionally sold out. We only have 25 tickets so register early.

Itinerary
The group will gather at the Center for Lifelong Learning at 9:30am. You can park in front or behind the building on Sunday.

The bus will leave promptly at 10am. Lunch will be provided on the bus so we don't have to make too many stops.

We should arrive at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival between 1:00 and 1:30 depending on traffice. The program will start at 2:00pm.

We will depart Montgomery at 4:00pm for our return trip. A dinner stop is planned around the Birmingham area. Dinner is on your own.

The group should be back in Athens by 8:00pm.

The fee is $125/person which includes your transportation, lunch, and tickets. Gratuities are not included.

Basic Blacksmithing
Mar 14, 2015
Our instructors will guide you through the basic blacksmithing techniques of forging metal using tools to hammer, bend, and cut. Students will learn basic safety, fire instruction, tapering, bending, twisting, spreading, rolling, hole-punching, and riveting. At the end of class, students will take home a 4-hook rack. No previous experience is required. All tools and equipment are provided.

Blacksmith activities can be inherently dangerous due to hot metal, sparks, sharp objects, welding and grinding operations, as well as other activities. It is recommended that students use safety glasses, wear cotton long sleeve shirts, long pants, and leather high top boots. Students will need to bring leather gloves to class.

Using an Airbrush to Decorate Cakes

In this class, Travis Fleming and Al Stephens will guide you in the steps to make grilling tongs or a untensil rack. All tools and equipment are provided. Annual Bloomin Festival

The Bloomin' Festival is a two day juried arts festival attracting thousands of visitors to the beautiful campus of St. Bernard Abbey and Prep School. 

This trip includes a visit to the world famous Ave Maria Grotto. The picturesque landscape of stone cut buildings on the grounds of Alabama's only Abbey provides a backdrop for the out-of-doors show.  More than 140 booths are filled with artists demonstrating and exhibiting their work. 

We will depart the Center for Lifelong Learning at 9:00am for the event. Fee includes transportation, entry tickets to festival and grotto. Lunch is on your own.

Intermediate Blacksmithing
May 2, 2015
Now that you know the basics, it is time to put the tapering, bending, twisting, spreading, rolling, hole-punching, and riveting to work on a more creative project. This class will focus on more advanced skills than the basic courses. Pre-requisite: Basic Blacksmith is required prior to taking this course.

Basic Cake Decorating

Learn the basics of simple cake decorating and how to make the perfect buttercream icing. Tammy Wilkinson will guide you in the steps to decorating cakes. Class is open to ages 11 and up. Students will take home a simple cake. Supplies included in the fee.
