Tim Jones

Professor of Justice Studies and Public Safety Administration

Dr. Tim Jones is a Professor of Justice Studies at Athens State University. Dr. Jones’s area of interest is primarily in law enforcement.  He has taught criminal justice at the collegiate level since 1983. Prior to this, he served as a peace officer for two Alabama law enforcement agencies.  He received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama in Huntsville, his M.S. from Auburn University Montgomery, and his Ed.D. from Auburn University.  In 1996, he was the recipient of a  Canadian Studies Grant in community and problem-oriented policing.

 

Jess Brown

Dr. Jess Brown has an undergraduate degree from Jacksonville State University with majors in both History and Political Science.  He earned the Ph.D. in Political Science from Southern Illinois University in 1981.  Dr. Brown teaches courses in the sub-fields of constitutional law, elections and voting behavior, state and local government, criminal justice process, and public policy.  He has co-authored a civics textbook on American government, published articles in academic journals, and frequently participates in discipline-related community service activities in the north Alabama region.  He is the former President of the Alabama Political Science Association and was elected by his peers as Presiding Officer of the Faculty Senate at Athens State..

 

Jerry Armor

Dr. Jerry Armor is an Associate Professor of Justice Studies at Athens State University.  Dr. Armor’s areas of interest include corrections and juvenile justice.  He has taught criminal justice at the collegiate level since 1981.  Prior to this, he served as a juvenile probation officer and a psychologist in the Alabama prison system.  He received his Bachelor’s degree from Samford University, his Master’s from Troy State University, and his Ph.D. from the University of Alabama.  He has published numerous articles, as well as a chapter in a national textbook
