Tony L. Moyers, Ph.D.
Associate Professor of Religion and Philosophy

Dr. Tony L. Moyers is an Associate Professor of Religion and Philosophy at Athens State University.  Professor Moyers’ academic interests include Hebrew Bible, social theory in relation to biblical interpretation, methods of interpretation, and theology.  His dissertation was The Social Function of 1 Kings 1-2.  He is also the author of Wanderings: Moral Landscapes Past and Present.  Dr. Moyers is a member of the Society for the Study of Biblical Literature and the American Academy of Religion.  He is also the sponsor and treasure for the Fellowship of Religion and Philosophical Studies at Athens State.  Dr. Moyers has a B.A. degree in Religion from Athens State College and a Ph.D. from Baylor University.  In addition, he did two years of graduate work at Vanderbilt University before transferring that work to the Baylor University Graduate program in Biblical Studies where he received his Ph.D. in 1994.

Dr. Robert A. White
Assistant Professor of Religion and Philosophy, Director of the Center for Religious Studies and Ethics

Dr. Robert A. White Jr. is Assistant Professor in Religion at Athens State University.  He has received a B.A. from Athens State College and a M.Div. and a D.Min. from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.  His academic areas of interest are in theology, ethics, literature, and philosophy.  He is also the pastor at Locust Grove Baptist church in New Market Alabama.  His recent professional activities include published articles for Proclaim, The Journal of the American Academy of Ministry, and Proclaim.  Dr. White teaches courses in the area of religion and Moral Values at Athens State University.
