Curtis Coleman Center for Religious Studies and Ethics

Purpose
The purpose of the Curtis Coleman Center for Religious Studies and Ethics is to promote understanding, goodwill, dialogue, cooperation, and service concerning religious and ethical issues. The Center is designed to serve the needs of students, faculty, and the community at large. The Center will explore the religious and ethical dimensions of a wide variety of cultural and contemporary issues.

The Curtis Coleman Center for Religious Studies and Ethics will provide:

  • Lecture series
  • Public Forums
  • Seminars/Workshops
  • Continuing Education Opportunities
  • Newsletter
  • Training Events
  • Service Projects/Events
  • Leadership Development
Organizational Structure
An Advisory Board that consists of University and community leaders oversees the work of the Center. This board helps plan, shape and promote the ongoing work of the Center in conjunction with the Director.

The Center will be available for:
  • InService Programs
  • Conventions/ Conferences
  • Keynote Addresses
  • Banquets and Luncheons
  • Speaking and Training
The Curtis Coleman Center for Religious Studies and Ethics will design programs and presentations that will meet specific needs within your organization.

  • Public and Professional Ethics Survey of Old and New Testament
  • Leadership with Integrity
  • Building Character The Importance of Character Education
  • The Role of Religion and Politics in Public Life
  • Making Your Way Through the Worship Maze
Public Forums
The Center will host four public forums each year. Possible public forum topics include:
  • On the Cutting Edge Medical Ethics for the 21st Century
  • Health Care in America
  • The Challenge of Religious Diversity in Public Education
  • The Leadership Crisis Influence and Integrity
Character Education
The Curtis Coleman Center for Religious Studies and Ethics will provide resources for schools, administrators, teachers, students and parents that promote Character Education.

The Center will provide training and resources featuring the 25 character traits throughout the school year. These character traits are mandated by the state of Alabama for our public schools. The resources created by the Center will seek to enhance the character traits through stories, articles, anecdotes, quotes, discussion questions and action items.

Note: The Character Compass serves as a symbol for this brochure. A character compass points the way for us in a time of change.
