Back to Field Experience Main

An online Request for Field Experience Application must be submitted to the Field Experience Office.

Go to Field Experience / Current Dates to view due dates for each semester. Students that fail to submit the application by the due date must be cleared by Mike Heatherly, Field Experience Coordinator, at field.experience@athens.edu to receive a late placement.

(SECONDARY MAJORS: Secondary majors earning a degree that includes a teaching certificate, must declare a major that includes your subject area and LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATION. Students adding an ABC Certificate must declare EDU/CERT as their major. Contact Admissions for help in changing your major. Contact the Clinical Field Experience Office with additional questions or concerns.)

I. Directions to submit an online Request for Field Experience Application:

1.  Go to ASU Online on College of Education home page. ASU Online

2.  Enter your user name and password.

3.  Go to Student Tab.

4.  Go to Request for Field Experience Placement (ED Students).

5.  Select current term.

6.  Complete form and submit.  (A confirmation statement will appear indicating that the application was successfully submitted.)

II.To view your assigned school / placement information:
Placements will appear as quickly as the Field Experience Office is able to process the application request.  Continue to check back at the same online location where the original online Request for Field Experience Application was submitted to view placement information.

Field Experience placements are made based on the following information:

  • Student’s address
  • Student's school system requests
  • Location and diversity setting of previous field experience assignments (Students are required to be placed at a different location each semester.)
  • Student's course requirements

Changing Placements - Changes in assigned placements will only be made under extreme circumstances.  The Field Experience Office goes to great lengths to make assigned placements based on the student’s address, student’s requests of systems, previous assigned locations and diversities of each placement.  Students are required to go to a different location and a different diversity setting each semester.

III. TB Skin Test

IV. Fingerprinting pdf

V. Verification Form
Students are required to take a Field Experience Verification Form into their field experience placement and get the signature of their assigned classroom teacher at the end of each completed day.   Verification Form

One day of field experience equals 7 hours of classroom observation.

Students are required to return the completed Verification Form after completing their field experience to their professors via LiveText. Students are required to scan a copy of the Verification Form at the end of each semester into their LiveText Portfolio.

The Field Experience Office will track all placements on-line. Please do NOT send a copy of the Verification Form to the Certification Office or the Field Experience Office. Students are encouraged to keep the original for their own records.

VI. On-line Evaluations Requirements
Online evaluations are required to be put into LiveText by the classroom teacher. Directions for the classroom teachers will be sent to the principals at each school. Professors will explain to students which evaluations are required for that particular course in the course syllabus. It is each student’s responsibility to follow the instructions given by each Professor.

The following courses require two online LiveText assessments: 1) Professional Dispositions Assessment and 2) Clinical Field Experience Assessment. These assessments are to be completed at the end of the field experience placement by the clinical faculty (classroom teacher).

All other courses require one online Professional Dispositions Assessment in LiveText to be completed at the end of the field experience placement by the clinical faculty (classroom teacher).

VII. Calculating Number of Assigned Days
Students are required to enter on the online application the number of days required for each course.

If the number of days exceeds 10, then the Field Experience Office will cap the days at 10 when the placement information is released.

MAXIMUM NUMBER of required days for Elementary Majors is capped at 10 days.  Early Childhood is capped at 10 days (this is a change from the 8 days that was previously assigned.)

Many early childhood courses require addition preschool observations.  Those preschool observation will be assigned by the individual professors.

EXCEPTION

Secondary majors will complete all assigned field experience days.  There will NOT be a cap on the total number of days.

Fall and Spring Semester: each day assigned equals 7 hours, ex. 8:00AM – 3:00PM

To view a list of COE courses and the number of required days of field experience, go to COE Courses and Field Requirements .
