Athens State University alumnus Denzel Sears has been named the Athens State University Intern Student of the Year. Sears graduated Summa Cum Laude in May 2017 with a degree in Computer Science. He worked as a math and computer science tutor from 2015 – 2016 and was active in the MACS Club.
Sears was offered an internship in October 2016 with Dynetics and worked there until his graduation. As a result of his strong work performance, Dynetics has extended his internship beyond graduation as a full-time Software Engineer at the company.
“Dynetics has taught me many technical and non-technical skills that I can apply inside and outside of the classroom on a day-to-day basis. Dynetics’ environment encourages diversity in many ways that help interns and employees grow in a continuous and consistent manner. The traits gained from the company help with solving hard and difficult problems as a whole. I hope to continue learning and maturing these important skills as I continue my pursuit for making software for anyone in the world to use,” stated Sears.
Sears’ supervisor at Dynetics, Chad Easterling, praised Sears, saying, “Mr. Sears is always ready to take on the next task without hesitation or complaint, even if the task involves something with which he is totally unfamiliar. He works well with his colleagues, and consistently and graciously takes constructive criticism as a learning opportunity.”
As the Athens State University Intern Student of the Year, Sears was awarded a $100 gift card and Recognition Certificate along with a letter from Athens State President, Dr. Bob Glenn.
