Narrative, Race, and Ethnicity in the United States

Athens State University’s incoming Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, Dr. Stephen Spencer, is an accomplished author and has recently added a new publication to his resume. His essay, “Narrative Process and Cultural Identity in Leslie Marmon Silko’s Ceremony,” has been included in the book Narrative, Race, and Ethnicity in the United States. The book is currently available through The Ohio State University Press.

Dr. Spencer’s essay combines narrative and postcolonial theories to explore the ways Silko’s work demonstrates a resistance to colonial constructions of identity. As discussed by Ohio State University Press, the overall assemblage of works is the “first book-length volume of essays devoted to studying the intersection of race/ethnicity and narrative theories.” Dr. Spencer plans to donate a copy of the book to the Athens State University Library.
