The council is open to all Athens State students who are interested in promoting literacy. Members are current and former students in the area and teachers in the Limestone County and Athens City Schools. The total membership is approximately 140. The council meets on campus in the Athens State ballroom every other month. The programs feature renowned authors, state personalities, local reading teachers, storytellers, etc. Each meeting also features a teaching tip to take back to the classroom and door prizes (free books) are given at each meeting. We are receiving rave reviews.
