Two employees of Athens State University’s Career Development Center and Counseling Services have received certification by national organizations. These certifications directly support the services offered to students and graduates by their Department.
Laura Allen, Assistant to the Director for Career Development and International Student Advisor, was recently certified as a Global Career Facilitator by the National Career Development Association (NCDA). This certification is an internationally recognized certification for professionals serving in a variety of occupations related to career development support and facilitation. To achieve the certification, Allen completed the 120 hour NCDA Career Development Facilitator curriculum taught under the direct supervision of a NCDA Career Development Facilitator Instructor.
Lisa Philippart, Licensed Practicing Counselor, has been named a Distance Credentialed Counselor by the Center for Credentialing and Education. This certification recognizes professionals with training in best practices in distance counseling. Certification in this specialty affirms the practitioner’s level of knowledge and experience, as well as their adherence to an established set of professional standards, thereby assuring clients that the individual is not only qualified to provide the counseling service, but has the means and equipment to offer a confidential, secure environment.
“Both Laura and Lisa have achieved these goals that were set forth for them to support the mission of our department,” said Saralyn Mitchell, Director of the Career Development Center and Counseling Services. ”It is important that we stay current to meet the needs of our students. What they can bring to their positions by achieving certification is invaluable.”
