2013-2014 Academic Year Institutional Scholarships
All institutional scholarships require the following information submitted by the deadline date:

  • A completed application for admissions,
  • All official transcripts on file in the Athens State Admissions Office;
  • All admissions requirements met;
  • Two letters of recommendation from faculty at transfer institution to be uploaded by student into electronic application;
  • A student essay addressing what you have to offer Athens State University, any extracurricular activities and honors to be uploaded by student into electronic application.
  • It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure the requirements listed above are met.

ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS

Presidential Scholarships
are academic scholarships awarded to new entering students based on outstanding academic achievement and leadership. Requirements: 4.0 grade point average minimum; completed application for admissions by deadline date; all official transcripts on file in the Athens State Admissions Office by the deadline date; all admissions requirements met; two letters of recommendation from faculty at transfer institution. The scholarship is a full tuition award and fee waiver for up to 64 hours over two academic years. The deadline date for this scholarship is May 30.

Academic Scholarships
are awarded to new entering students with outstanding academic achievements. Requirements: 3.5 grade point average minimum; completed application for admissions by deadline date; all official transcripts on file in the Athens State Admissions Office by the deadline date; all admissions requirements met; two letters of recommendation from faculty at transfer institution. The scholarship is a tuition only (fees not included) waiver. Award amounts vary. The deadline date for this scholarship is May 30.

PARTICIPATION SCHOLARSHIPS

Student Activities Leadership Scholarships
are awarded to new entering students who demonstrate leadership qualities through participation with clubs and organizations. These students will assist with campus activities through the Student Activities Office. Requirements: 3.0 grade point average minimum; completed application for admissions by deadline date; all official transcripts on file in the Athens State Admissions Office by the deadline date; all admissions requirements met; two letters of recommendation from faculty at transfer institution; resume uploaded by student. Awards vary. Review of these scholarships will begin May 1st.

Athenian Scholarships
are awarded to an Editor and Assistant Editor(s) of the University newspaper. These outstanding students will oversee the publication of The Athenian. Requirements: 3.0 grade point average minimum; completed application for admissions by deadline date; all official transcripts on file in the Athens State Admissions Office by the deadline date; all admissions requirements met; two letters of recommendation from faculty at transfer institution; submit a writing sample. Awards vary. The deadline date for this scholarship is May 30.

OTHER SCHOLARSHIPS

Alumni Scholarships
The Athens State University Alumni Association has numerous scholarships available. In order to be considered for an Alumni Scholarship, you are required to complete our online application which includes essay questions addressing your financial need, including the scholarships and financial aid you have already received, what you have to offer Athens State University, and state any extracurricular activities and honors. Within the online scholarship application, two letters of recommendation and copies of transcripts from all colleges and universities attended must be uploaded. Preference is given to family members of Athens College/Athens State College/Athens State University graduates. Review of these scholarships will begin on May 30.

Golf Scholarship
is awarded to a student who demonstrates leadership qualities through clubs and organizations at transfer institution.The scholarship will be made available in two disbursements (fall/spring) and may be applied to tuition, fees and/or books purchased from the University Bookstore. Requirements: a minimum 3.0 grade point average; completed application for admissions by deadline date; all official transcripts on file in the Athens State Admissions Office by the deadline date; two letters of recommendation from faculty at transfer institution; maintain at least half time status (6 credit hours per semester); and must work 150 hours per semester for the Alumni Office as assigned by the Coordinator of Alumni Affairs. The deadline date for this scholarship is May 30.

Alumni Emergency Scholarship
Purpose: The Alumni Emergency Scholarship was established to assist students that find themselves in a temporary financial bind. The funding, if approved, can be used to pay for school, transportation, living and/or family related expenses that help the student remain in school.

Process:

  1. Establish a Financial Aid record at Athens State University.
  2. Submit the completed application along with a letter explaining need to the Office of Alumni Affairs (Smith House on the corner of Hargrove and Pryor Streets).

  3. If approved by the Alumni Scholarship Committee- the Office of Alumni Affairs will contact the applicant with the approved amount. The Office of Alumni Affairs will also contact the applicant if the application is not approved.
The expected time from receiving the completed application packet to notification of approval/non-approval should take no more than 5 business days. Art Scholarship
is awarded to a new entering student with outstanding potential as an art major. Requirements: 2.75 grade point average minimum; completed application for admissions by deadline date; completed application for admissions by deadline date; all official transcripts on file in the Athens State Admissions Office by the deadline date; all admissions requirements met; all program prerequisites met; must enroll at least half-time (6 hours); portfolio review is required. The scholarship is a tuition waiver. Award amounts vary. The deadline date for this scholarship is May 30.

Athens State University Need-Based Scholarship Program
Need-Based Scholarships are awarded to new entering students who meet specific criteria regarding their financial need. Requirements: 2.0 grade point average minimum, but GPA is a serious consideration; all admissions requirements met; two letters of recommendation from faculty at transfer institution; all official transcripts on file in the Athens State Admissions Office by the deadline date; Admissions Application completed by deadline date; qualify for the Federal Pell Grant Program; complete the verification process, if required. The scholarship is a tuition waiver. The deadline date for this scholarship is July 1.

Foundation Scholarships
The Athens State University Foundation has numerous scholarships available. In order to be considered for a Foundation Scholarship, you are required to complete our online application which includes essay questions addressing your financial need, including the scholarships and financial aid you have already received, what you have to offer Athens State University, and state any extracurricular activities and honors. Within the online scholarship application, two letters of recommendation and copies of transcripts from all colleges and universities attended must be uploaded.
Review of these scholarships will begin on May 1.

SPONSORED SCHOLARSHIPS

North Alabama International Trade Association Scholarships 2013-14
are awarded to individuals who have been accepted to Athens State University. Applicant must be a U.S. citizen, be enrolled as a student for the fall and spring semesters, and be a International Business minor. Review of these scholarships will begin on June 15.

Phi Theta Kappa Transfer Scholarship
is awarded to an entering student and current member in good standing of a Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa. Students must have a 3.25 GPA and submit an application packet for consideration. The award is a tuition waiver of $1600.00 for two academic years. Up to ten awards are made annually. Awardees are required to perform up to 20 service hours to the ASU Phi Theta Kappa Alumni Association each year. The student must have a minimum of sophomore standing and be eligible for admission to Athens State University. The application packet must include: a letter of nomination from the Phi Theta Kappa Chapter Sponsor at the student's community college; application for admissions to Athens State; unofficial student transcripts, and student resume. The nomination letter must include verification of student's active membership, membership number, offices held, activities and evidence of leadership and service. The student resume must include involvement with Phi Theta Kappa and/or other college or community organizations, including offices held, and evidence of leadership and service. The priority deadline is March 31 for awards in the next academic year. The extended deadline is July 1st. Applications should be submitted online using the ‘Apply for Institutional Scholarships’ link at the top of this page.

Redstone Federal Credit Union Scholarships
are awarded to individuals who are currently enrolled or have been accepted for the Fall Semester.
Students can apply now by clicking here or on Redstone's website at www.redfcu.org.

Daikin America, Inc. Minority Scholarship Program
Daikin America, Inc., a leader in the Chemical and Fluoropolymer industry, grants an annual scholarship in May, to deserving full-time minority college students from Morgan County in good standing. Three-thousand dollars will be awarded to each selected minority college student. The deadline for the scholarship is February 28th.

Follett Scholarship
is awarded to a student in good standing with Athens State University. Review of Applications begins August 1.

SCHOLARSHIPS THAT DO NOT REQUIRE AN APPLICATION

All Alabama Academic Team
Academic Scholarships are offered to members of the All Alabama Academic Team for the Alabama College System. Student must submit proof of Team membership to Student Financial Aid prior to registration for courses at Athens State University. Students must have a minimum 3.5 GPA. Awards waive tuition costs up to 18 hours per semester, up to 64 total hours over two academic years, not to exceed graduation requirements. Team members from the last two academic years must submit a copy of their Award Letter from the Alabama College System as application.

The Dottie and JJ Donahue SGA President's Scholarship
is awarded to the president of SGA, $150 per semester for fall and spring semesters. No application is required.

Senior Adult Scholarship Program
This program allows any student 60 years or older (meeting admissions requirements) to receive a tuition waiver for college credit courses on a space available basis only. Space available basis requires registration during the late registration time period. Tuition can only be waived one time for each course taken. Contact the Business Office for the waiver.
