The application process is closed for our
2010/2011 school year Scholarships with the exception of our Foundation Scholarships.

Institutional Scholarships

All institutional scholarships require the following information submitted by the deadline date:

  • a completed application for admissions,
  • all official transcripts on file in the Athens State Admissions Office;
  • all general education requirements met;
  • no more than 6 credit hours earned at Athens State by end of Spring Semester;
  • two letters of recommendation from faculty at transfer institution to be uploaded by student into electronic application;
  • a student essay addressing what you have to offer Athens State University, any extracurricular activities and honors to be uploaded by student into electronic application.
  • It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure the requirements listed above are met.

Presidential Scholarships
are awarded to new entering students based on outstanding academic achievement and leadership.  Requirements:  4.0 grade point average minimum; completed application for admissions by deadline date; all official transcripts on file in the Athens State Admissions Office by the deadline date; all general education requirements met; no more than 6 credit hours earned at Athens State by end of Spring Semester; two letters of recommendation from faculty at transfer institution.  The scholarship is a full tuition award and waives fees. Deadline is May 30 for awards in the following academic year.

Academic Scholarships
are awarded to new entering students with outstanding academic achievements. Requirements: 3.5 grade point average minimum; completed application for admissions by deadline date; all official transcripts on file in the Athens State Admissions Office by the deadline date; all general education requirements met; no more than 6 credit hours earned at Athens State by end of Spring Semester; two letters of recommendation from faculty at transfer institution. The scholarship is a tuition waiver.  Award amounts vary.  Deadline is May 30 for awards in the following aca­demic year.

Student Activities Leadership Scholarships
are awarded to new entering students who demonstrate leadership qualities through participa­tion with clubs and organizations. These students will assist with campus activities through the Student Activities Office. Requirements: 3.0 grade point average minimum; completed application for admissions by deadline date; all official transcripts on file in the Athens State Admissions Office by the deadline date; no more than 6 credit hours earned at Athens State by end of Spring Semester; two letters of recommendation from faculty at transfer institution; resume uploaded by student. Awards vary.  Deadline is May 30 for awards in the following academic year.

Athenian Scholarships
are awarded to an Editor and Assistant Editor(s) of the University newspaper. These outstanding students will oversee the publication of The Athenian. Requirements: 3.0 grade point average minimum; completed application for admissions by deadline date; all official transcripts on file in the Athens State Admissions Office by the deadline date; no more than 6 credit hours earned at Athens State by end of Spring Semester; two letters of recommendation from faculty at transfer institution; submit a writing sample. Awards vary. Deadline is May 30 for awards in the following academic year.

Alumni Scholarships
are awarded to new entering students who have an immediate family member/members (grandparent(s), parent(s), brother(s), sister(s), aunt(s), or uncle(s)) who attend or graduated from Athens College/Athens State College/Athens State University.  Requirements: a minimum 3.25 grade point average required; completed application for admissions by deadline date; all official transcripts on file in the Athens State Admissions Office by the deadline date; no more than 6 credit hours earned at Athens State by end of Spring Semester; two letters of recommendation from faculty at transfer institution. Deadline is May 30 for awards in the following academic year.

Geraldine Whitt Alumni Scholarship
is awarded to a new student with need.  Requirements: a minimum 3.25 grade point average; completed application for admissions by deadline date; all official transcripts on file in the Athens State Admissions Office by the deadline date; no more than 6 credit hours earned at Athens State by end of Spring Semester; two letters of recommendation from faculty at transfer institution; a paragraph on why you feel you should receive the Alumni Scholarship to ASU, including a statement of need; a second paragraph on what you have to offer ASU. Deadline is May 30 for awards in the following academic year.

Golf Scholarship
is awarded to a student who demonstrates leader­ship qualities through clubs and organizations at transfer institution.  Requirements: a minimum 3.0 grade point average; completed application for admissions by deadline date; all official transcripts on file in the Athens State Admissions Office by the deadline date; no more than 6 credit hours earned at Athens State by end of Spring Semester; two letters of recommendation from faculty at transfer institution; maintain a full-time status (12 credit hours) enrollment; attend the main campus at Athens State University; work 150 hours per semester for the Alumni Offi ce, as assigned by the Coordinator of Alumni Affairs. Deadline is May 30 for awards in the following academic year.

Phi Theta Kappa Transfer Scholarship
is awarded to a current member in good standing of an Alabama Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa. Requirements:  3.5 grade point average minimum; a letter of good standing from the Phi Theta Kappa Chapter Sponsor completed application for admissions by deadline date; all official transcripts on file in the Athens State Admissions Office by the deadline date; all general education requirements met; no more than 6 credit hours earned at Athens State by end of Spring Semester; two letters of recommendation from faculty at transfer institution. The award is a tuition waiver of up to $1600.00 for two academic years. Up to ten awards are made annually. The priority deadline for applica­tions is March 31 for awards in the following academic year.  Additional deadline is July 1 for any declined awards for the next academic year.

Athens State University Need-Based Scholarship Program
Need-Based Scholarships are awarded to students who meet specific criteria regarding their financial need. Requirements:  2.0 grade point average minimum; all general education requirements met; no more than 6 credit hours earned at Athens State by end of Spring Semester; two letters of recommendation from faculty at transfer institution; all official transcripts on file in the Athens State Admissions Office by the deadline date; Admissions Application completed by deadline date; qualify for the Federal Pell Grant Program; complete the verification process, if required. Deadline: July 1 for awards in the following academic year.

Foundation Scholarships
The Athens State University Foundation has numerous scholarships avail­able. Applicants are required to submit two letters of recommendation, copies of transcripts from all colleges and universities attended, and write a short essay addressing your financial need, including the scholarships and financial aid you have already received, what you have to offer Athens State University, and state any extracurricular activities and honors. Review of these Scholarships will begin May 1st

Sponsored Scholarships

North Alabama International Trade Association Scholarships
are awarded to individuals who have been accepted to Athens State Uni­versity. Applicant must be a U.S. citizen, be enrolled as a student for the fall and spring semesters, and be a International Business minor. Review of these Scholarships will begin July 1.

Redstone Federal Credit Union Scholarships
are awarded to individuals who are members of good standing in the Red­stone Federal Credit Union and are accepted to Athens State University. Review of these Scholarships will begin April 1st

Daikin America, Inc. Minority Scholarship Program
Daikin America, Inc., a leader in the Chemical and Fluoropolymer industry, grants an annual scholarship in May, to deserving full-time minority college students from Morgan County in good standing. Three-thousand dollars will be awarded to each selected minority college student. Deadline for making application is February 28.

Follett Scholarship
is awarded to a student in good standing with Athens State University.  Review of Applications begins August 1.

Other Scholarships

All Alabama Academic Team
Academic Scholarships are offered to members of the All Alabama Academic Team for the Alabama College System. Student must submit proof of Team membership to the Office of Student Financial Services prior to registration for courses at Athens State University. Students must have a minimum 3.5 GPA.  Awards waive tuition costs up to 18 hours per semester, up to 64 total hours over two academic years, not to exceed graduation requirements

The Dottie and JJ Donahue SGA President’s Scholarship
is awarded to the president of SGA, $150 per semester for fall and spring semesters. No application is required.

Senior Adult Scholarship Program
This program allows any student 60 years or older (meeting admissions requirements) to receive a tuition waiver for college credit courses on a space available basis only. Space available basis requires registration during the late registration time period. Contact the Business Office for the waiver.
