Guide to Student Support Resources

Athens State University offers a variety of support resources that are available to all students. Each of these areas offer a variety of unique services aimed at assisting students in their academic or extracurricular endeavors.

The Office of Admissions assists students with admission processes for the University and registration for classes. The Office can also assist students with inquiries related to transfer of credit, fees, and campus visits.

Career Development Center
The Career Development Center provides assistance to Athens State students and alumni in career planning, development and job seeking strategies. Students receive support in creating professional documents (resumes, cover letters, and social media profiles) and learning effective interviewing techniques. The Center serves as a major link between students/alumni and potential employers.

Counseling Services
Counseling Services assists students, staff, and faculty with the challenges of life during college and work by encouraging healthy personal choices and balanced perspectives. Direct services include individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, consultation, mental health counseling, social skills training, and referral services. Services are free of charge.

Disability Services
Disability Services assists students with disabilities in gaining equal access to Athens State University programs and services. Disability Services determines eligibility, coordinates reasonable academic accommodations, and collaborates with faculty, staff, and the community to promote awareness and equal access to University events and programs.

Financial Aid
The Office of Student Financial Aid assists qualified students with grants, loans, and scholarships from federal, state, institutional, and other funding sources. The Office supplements the efforts of students and their parents in meeting educational costs.

International Students
International Student Services assists international students in transferring to Athens State University. Services include interpretation of governmental regulations, SEVIS reporting, and academic support and advisement.

Off-Campus Centers
Off-Campus Centers are staffed by Center Managers who provide a broad variety of student services for potential and current students including assistance with admissions and financial aid processes, transfer advising and unofficial transcript evaluation, developing plans of study and first semester schedules, and scheduling exam appointments for proctoring. University Centers located at Northeast, Redstone Arsenal, and Wallace State-Hanceville are frequently a setting for both blended and traditional courses. Distance Learning Centers located at Northwest Shoals and Snead State provide venues for online courses.

The University provides a variety of institutional scholarship programs, and provides information and assistance for students applying for scholarships sponsored by outside entities. The Office of Student Financial Aid assists student with scholarships.

Student Activities
The Office of Student Activities provides and sponsors programs that offer cultural, recreational and personal growth opportunities and development of leadership skills. The Office encourages students to take advantage of campus life and get involved by joining one of our strong student organizations.

Student Records
The Office of Student Records maintains student records and provides Athens State University transcripts electronically, or by mail, by fax, or in person. The Office also processes graduation applications, change of name/address forms, re-admission forms, and change of major/minor forms.

Transfer Student Success Center
The Transfer Student Success Center helps students with the transfer of credits process, discusses the general education requirements, completes an unofficial major plan of study and assigns faculty advisors. The TSSC also starts the process of populating the Student Advising Module (SAM), helps students find appropriate resources on campus and works with retention efforts.

Veterans Affairs
The Office of Veterans Affairs assists eligible veterans and their eligible dependents with the certification process for utilization of federal GI Bill program benefits. The Office also provides program guidance for veterans educational benefits programs.
