Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find out what jobs are available at Athens State University?

We are pleased to offer the Online Employment System for all faculty and staff open positions. Part-time (adjunct) applications are kept in an applicant pool should there be a future opening.

The job listing for all open positions is available 24 hours a day at jobs.athens.edu on any computer with internet access.

How do I apply for a job?

Create a username and password to be used to log-in. Once you have logged in to the system, you may create your application/profile online at any time. You may also search for open positions before creating the online application. Once applications are received through the system, it facilitates an electronic selection and approval process, making for a more rapid, efficient, and user-friendly process. Paper applications, faxes, and emails are not accepted, and unsolicited resumes will not be added to any applicant pool.

Can I apply for more than one position at a time?

Yes, once you have completed your online application/profile through the Online Employment Service, you can apply for as many that match your qualifications. When you re-visit the site, the original application/profile you created will be available for you to use and/or update to apply for other positions.

How will I know if a position for which I applied has been filled?

You will receive an email when any position for which you have applied has been filled. You may also check the status of your application by logging into the system and viewing the listing of positions for which you have applied. Once the position is filled, the status of the position will change to “position filled.”

When/how can I make changes to my application/profile?

Changes can be made to your application/profile at any time. Any changes you make to your application will be included for any new position for which you apply. If changes to an application that has already been submitted are necessary, please contact the Human Resources office at employment@athens.edu or by phone at 256-216-3333 so that your application can be reactivated.

Which documents are needed to apply?

  • Personal letter of application (cover letter)
  • Current resume’
  • Unofficial transcripts from the college or university which verifies minimum qualifications for the position. Upon an offer of employment, official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended must be submitted. Continued employment is contingent upon receipt of all transcripts. Please see each vacancy notice for any variance of these requirements.

What is the difference between a required qualification and a preferred (or desired) qualification?

The required qualification is necessary to qualify for a position, and failure to substantiate each will preclude the possibility of an interview. Preferred (or desired) qualifications are not necessary to qualify for a position but may be used to select from among the applicants.

What if I don’t have access to a computer?

Computers are available on campus in the Sandridge Student Center Ballroom Annex. The Athens State Library also has computers available for use during extended hours. Additionally, the Online Employment System can be accessed through any computer with internet access.
