Alabama Farmers Cooperative to Sponsor Fiddlers Convention Main Stage

September 18, 2013

ATHENS, Ala. - Beginning with this, the 47th annual Tennessee Valley Old Time Fiddlers Convention, Alabama Farmers Cooperative will be the sole sponsor of the event’s main stage located on the steps of Athens State University’s historic Founders Hall.

The newly named Alabama Farmers Cooperative Main Stage has historically hosted such acts as the Riders in the Sky, Bobby Osborne and the Rocky Top X-press, the Quebe Sisters Band, and this year’s headliners comedian Mike Snider and Gary Nichols and the Steeldrivers. The stage also serves as the main performance stage for competitors in the stringed instruments and band categories. It also serves as the stage from which the yearly “Fiddle Champion” is named at the conclusion of the convention on Saturday night.

“We are pleased to have forged this partnership with Alabama Farm Cooperative,” states Athens State Vice President and Fiddler Chairman Rick Mould. “and it is nice to be able to proudly tie their good name to this important spot.”

The stage will bear the Co-op’s name for a three-year period. This is the first time naming opportunities have been associated with the almost 50 year old musical competition.

“The Convention provides an excellent opportunity to raise the profile of traditional music,” states Jim Allen, Alabama Farmers Cooperative Director of Public Relations. “The entertainers gathered are nationally and internationally recognized as the cream of the crop in this genre of music, the venue is fabulous and the audience ranks among some of the best folks you could possibly want to be around! We feel privileged to be associated with the Fiddlers Convention and the way of life associated with old time music.”

The Tennessee Valley Old Time Fiddlers Convention is being held on October 4 and 5 at Athens State University. The event has historically attracted more than 15,000 people for the two-day event, with more than 200 musicians expected to participate. Approximately 150 booths featuring old-fashioned arts and crafts are part of the convention. Convention goers will see everything from traditional artwork to coal-fired metal works.
