In-Service Center to Host Leadership Symposium

December 16, 2013

ATHENS, Ala. – Athens State University’s Regional In-Service Center will be hosting its third annual Leadership Symposium on February 6 and 7, 2014 with a pre-conference day on February 5. The symposium will be held on the Athens State University campus in Athens, Alabama. It is expected that the event will be sold out before the end of the year.

“As in the past two years we are selling out early,” states Charlotte Feigley, Associate Director of the Regional Inservice Center. “I cannot help but think that this is due to the importance of leadership initiatives within our elementary schools.”

Feigley continues, “This symposium serves as a wonderful tourism catalyst for our area. That, along with the impact it has on local educational trends, makes it an overall coup for north Alabama and beyond.”

Keynote speakers scheduled for the 2014 Symposium Series include Daniel Pink, author of A Whole New Mind, a New York Times and Business Week Bestseller. Special guest at the symposium will be Franklin Covey Senior Vice President Sean Covey.

Covey is the author of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens which is based on the principles of The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People written by his father, Stephen Covey.

In addition to the thought-provoking keynote addresses the symposium will offer individualized topical sessions, a discussion on the alignment between The Leader in Me and Common Core, virtual learning opportunities, table topics on select subjects, and opportunities to interact with students who have participated in Leader In Me programming.

The Leadership Symposium at Athens State will serve as an education event entirely focused on bringing leadership and 21st Century life skills to our K–12 system. During these two-day events, student leaders take a key role in demonstrating how the program equips them to excel in life. In addition, these conferences attract educators, business leaders, and community stakeholders alike, and offer an unforgettable experience of accelerated growth and development.
