Athens State University Human Resources Group Recognized

June 17, 2014
The national headquarters for The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) has evaluated and re-endorsed Athens State University’s Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management for the period of January 2015 – December 2017. This distinction recognizes the rigor of academic programming in HR education at the university level to meet national standards that have been identified by SHRM as essential to prepare students for a successful career in human resources.

Athens State Provost Ronald Cromwell was informed of the distinction in late May. The congratulatory letter from SHRM Director of Academic Initiatives, Nancy A. Woolever, SPHR states, “Your program fully aligns with the SHRM HR curriculum guides established in 2005 and revalidated in 2013.” This news follows the recent announcement that the Athens State University Student SHRM Chapter was selected as one of the elite group of 24 university recipients nationwide to receive their “Outstanding Student Chapter Award” for 2013-2014. This award can only be considered for chapters attaining the “Superior Merit Award” the same award year,

which the Athens State University SHRM Student Chapter also will receive this award year. While the “Outstanding Student Chapter Award” highlights specific areas of excellence by the chapter, Athens State University was selected for this award specifically for its HR Programming and Education. These awards will be presented at the upcoming SHRM Student/National Conference in Orlando, Florida next month June 20-25, 2014. Current SHRM Advisor, Dr. Kim LaFevor and Student SHRM President, Jacklyn Cooper will be on hand to accept the award on behalf of the chapter.

Nationally, SHRM is the world’s largest association devoted to Human Resource Management. Representing more than 250,000 members in over 140 countries, the Society serves the needs of HR professionals and advances the interests of the HR profession. Founded in 1948, SHRM has more than 575 affiliated chapters and over 450 affiliated student chapters with 15,000 members internationally.
