Athens State alumna Jensen Kirby and her siblings, Brendon and Kensley, have had a lot to celebrate recently! Despite at least a two-year age difference between each of them, all three siblings graduated from different colleges during the same week.
Jensen received her Bachelor’s degree in Health and Wellness Management and is currently looking for a job in medical research. Meanwhile, her older brother, Brendon, obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Poultry Science from Auburn University and her younger sister, Kensley, walked in the spring commencement ceremony at Calhoun Community College and will be finishing up the dental assistant program there this summer.
When Jensen was asked why she chose Athens State even though her brother and sister chose other colleges, she said, “I was always interested in Athens State because it was so close to home, and I love the small class sizes and flexibility to have online and night classes. Once I decided to major in Health and Wellness Management, I knew Athens was a good choice.”
Jensen did not mind sharing the spotlight of such a major milestone with her brother and sister. She and her siblings are close, and were all excited and proud of each other. She enjoyed sharing that special time with them and seeing how proud their family and friends were of all three of them as well.
Having that many graduations at once was a busy time for the Kirbys, but it provided them with special moments that they will never forget. “I thought my mom was crazy for making me and my sister pack our cap and gown for the trip to Auburn so she could take a picture of the three of us together,” Jensen said, “but that ended up being the most memorable moment for me.”
The siblings are enjoying having the whole family back together at home again. They love being able to attend church together as well as turn everything in their lives into a friendly competition, especially mini golf.
