The mission of the Athens State University Library is to identify, acquire, maintain, preserve, and provide access to information and research in support of academic programs offered by the institution; to enhance bibliographic skills of patrons through instruction; to work cooperatively with faculty and the greater community to build appropriate collections in a variety of formats; to respond to advances in information technology; to establish and maintain cooperative agreements for resource sharing with other libraries; and, to encourage research and life-long learning.

- RESOURCES:
The Library at Athens State University has holdings of approximately 100,000 volumes (including a juvenile/adolescent collection in support of the elementary and secondary education curriculum) and subscribes to approximately 350 periodicals.
- CIRCULATION POLICY:
- Three week checkout period for most materials with daily overdue fine thereafter. Telephone renewal service is available: 256-233-8218.
- Current library user card required for borrowing of materials.
- Alumni, community members, and students from cooperating libraries are provided access to materials. Athens State students and faculty, through cooperative lending agreements, have limited borrowing priviliges at selected area libraries.

Library Services
Individual research assistance available by appointment or walk-in. Our Reference Staff's first priority is service to our students, faculty and community.
Interlibrary Loan:
For books and periodicals. As a member of the regional Library Management Network and the international Online Computer Library Center, we have access to the holdings of libraries throughout the world. A current library user card is required for interlibrary loan service.
Document Delivery:
Overnight service available. Please inquire about charges.
Printed Handouts:
On various topics. Available at several locations throughout the library.
Workshops:
Regularly offered on various aspects of bibliographic research. Current schedule available upon request via e-mail.
Online Library Catalog:
The on-line catalog permits access to the book holdings of the library as well as regional holdings of 16 library systems in over 29 locations in North Alabama, via the Library Management Network. Remote patrons may reach the LMN Catalog at: http://www.lmn.lib.al.us:8013/.
Internet Access:
The Information Super-Highway via the World Wide Web is now available for patron use. Specific policies are posted in the libary.
Periodical Indexes:
Printed Indexes to periodical literature are located in Reference, and are of either a general nature (i.e., Readers' Guide) or geared to particular subjects (i.e., Humanities Index, Business Periodicals Index, etc.).

Abstracting and indexing of over 800 academic management, marketing and general business periodicals.

Comprehensive indexing and abstracts of nearly 800 periodicals. (Athens State subscribes to 350. See the Library's Periodical Holdings booklet.) Full text from hundreds of titles.
- ERIC
A database of educational materials collected by Educational Resource Information Center. Includes abstracts of articles in 750 research journals and thousands of research reports.
