Athens State to host Trout Fishing in America at Storytelling Festival

As an added treat for this year’s Athens Storytelling Festival, Athens State University will be sponsoring “Trout Fishing in America” in the Storytelling Tent on the east side of the Courthouse Square on October 31 at 5:00 pm.  Athens State has subsidized the cost for this one performance, and the public will be admitted for free.

Trout Fishing in America is the long-standing musical partnership of Keith Grimwood and Ezra Idlet. The name for the duo is taken from a Richard Brautigan novel and seems almost as incongruent and intriguing as a picture of this musical duo - Idlet stands six feet nine inches and Grimwood, just over five feet five. What is more intriguing is the musical career these two have carved out in three decades of writing, recording and performing together.

Trout Fishing in America can look back at a body of work that is impressive and know they are just hitting their stride. On the heels of their fourth Grammy nomination Big Round World, and the release of a children's book/cd My Name is Chicken Joe, it is no wonder that Trout Fishing in America sees the future as the brightest part of their successful career.

Athens State President Bob Glenn is an ardent fan of the duo.  “I first saw them perform by accompanying my kids to their concerts,” states Glenn.  “Now I am the one who instigates plans to see their shows. Their repertoire is family friendly but sophisticated enough for the parents to enjoy the performance just as much as their children.”

After years of accumulating original songs and polishing their performance Trout Fishing in America was ready when the CD revolution took place. They were in the first wave of artist owned labels (Trout Records) to successfully record and market their own music. Their infectious mix of folk/pop and family music is tempered by the diverse influences of reggae, latin, blues, jazz and classical music. Trout Fishing in America recordings have garnered three National Indie Awards and multiple Parents Choice Gold and American Library Awards as well as 4 Grammy nominations. They have also expanded their touring territory to over forty states and several Canadian provinces.

Please note that the Trout Fishing in America performance is free and open to the public as a gift from Athens State to the community and the Storytelling Festival, but all other Festival events do require tickets.  To purchase Storytelling tickets, please visit www.athensstorytellingfestival.com
