I. Policy Statement and Purpose
Athens State University is committed to providing a safe, secure and crime-free environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors. As required by provisions of the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), institutions which participate in federal student financial aid programs must provide information to the public regarding campus safety and security policies, procedures, and crime statistics.
In accordance with the Clery Act, this policy requires that the University develop, maintain, and publish a Emergency Procedures Guide, and maintain and publish Crime Statistics in compliance with the disclosure and reporting requirements of the Clery Act.
II. Responsibility for this Operating Policy
As part of the initial approval of this policy by the President and subsequent to the original dissemination of the policy, the President remains the policy owner for the ongoing evaluation, review, and approval of this policy. Subsequent reviews and revisions to this policy must be in accordance with approved operating policy procedures and processes.
This policy will be reviewed every three years or more frequently as needed by the Policy Owner. Revisions will be reviewed/reaffirmed by the Cabinet and approved by the University President. This policy will be updated/published in the University’s Policy Library.
Responsibility for Policy Implementation
The President has assigned the responsibility of implementing this policy to the Vice President for Financial Affairs.
