The Athens State University student newspaper – The Athenian – is published year round, with two editions in the fall semester, two in the spring semester, and one during the summer term. The newspaper is distributed free of charge, in both print and electronic versions, to members of the University community.
The Director of Student Activities serves as the advisor to the editorial staff and oversees the publication of The Athenian. Scholarships are available for the Athenian editor and up to two assistant editors. The editor manages the publication of The Athenian, is responsible for some content, and must maintain 8 office hours per week. An assistant editor is responsible for assisting the editor and requires 6 office hours per week. Additional details on these scholarships can be found on the Institutional Scholarships page.
The Athenian welcomes submissions from students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Submissions must be accompanied by contact information including name, address and phone number. Submissions are generally limited to 400 words, and may be delivered via mail, e-mail, or in person. All submissions are subject to the approval of the editorial board and advisor. The editorial board reserves the right to edit submissions for brevity, style, clarity, and liability.
