Students Can Join the Calhoun Chorale in Conjunction With New Minor

Dateline: August 14, 2018

Calhoun Community College is opening their Chorale to students at Athens State University. Students may participate in the Calhoun Chorale free of charge during the Fall 2018 semester. Athens State will be launching a new music minor in Spring 2019, where Chorale will be offered as a course option.

The Calhoun Chorale takes pride in its extensive repertoire and vast singing opportunities. They collaborated with the Huntsville Community Chorus and Huntsville Symphony Orchestra in the fall of 2017 for a performance of Orff’s “Carmina Burana.” The following spring, they joined The University of Northern Alabama choirs and orchestra for a performance of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony. The Chorale also performs Christmas and Spring concerts, as well as during programs for Calhoun’s Veteran’s Day, Martin Luther King Day, and GospelFest.

The Calhoun Chorale is seeking motivated and talented students to audition and become a part of the ensemble. A one year commitment is preferred. Rehearsals and performances are held at the Alabama Center for the Arts in Decatur, AL. Any students interested in joining should contact Granville Oldham, the conductor, at .
