The Athens State University Accounting Club recently sponsored a tour of Turner Medical, Inc. in Athens, Alabama, a subsidiary of the French corporation InTech Medical. Specializing in the manufacturing of components and assemblies for the medical industry, Turner Medical representatives spent time speaking with students and faculty about the parts they produce and their business processes.
Turner Medical Manager of Operations David Brackeen and Controller Joe Haney led an outstanding tour around the facility, going to great lengths to explain each part of the plant and to speak directly with students about their business and financial operations. Students were able to see close-up machined medical instruments and implants for spinal, orthopedic, and other medical procedures while hearing about the process of parts flowing from purchase of raw materials to shipping to customers.
Professor Emily Corzine coordinated the tour with the company on behalf of the Accounting Club, and Professor Kim Roberts integrated the American Production & Inventory-Control Society (APICS) club to also join. Nine students from the Accounting Club and APICS attended the tour.
