Objectives:

  1. Identify and evaluate software that supports content standards and ISTE standards to promote best practices for technology integration in the selected content area in the preservice curriculum.
  1. Provide the content-specific list to be used to generate the needed list of software for the Model Classroom in the Reading and Math Clinic.

Clock Faces (by Micrograms)

Grades 1-4:  Join Captain Chronometer, Father Time, Sunny, Sandy, and Second-Hand Rose for lots of fun telling time, setting the time, and mastering calendar skills.  Activities include time intervals of 1 hour, ½ hour, ¼ hour, 5 minutes, or 1 minute.  Options also enable selection of word problems dealing with either time or calendar dates.  Student records are available and may be printed.  Choose practice in either English or Spanish.  Excellent graphics keep students coming back time and time again.

Data Management & Probability (by Gamco)

Elementary:  The helpful bear verbally and visually walks children through each step of understanding a concept.  Tutorial and help features give struggling students added and self-directed assistance.  Age-appropriate, common illustrations and examples are used to help children relate to concepts of everyday life.

Hot Dog Stand:  The Works (by Sunburst)

Grades 5 – Adult:  Challenge students to manage their own business with this multimedia simulation where they run a concession stand and are responsible for gathering information, keeping records, determining prices, and planning marketing strategies.  Students practice critical math, problem-solving, and communication skills, including:  arithmetic operations, estimation, data gathering, data analysis, interpreting graphs, recognizing patterns, working backward, writing, and choosing appropriate tools.

Ice Cream Truck (by Sunburst)

Grades 2-6:  Your elementary students learn important problem solving, strategic planning, and math operation skills, as they become owners of a busy ice cream truck with this fun, business simulation program!  With two levels of play, this fun-filled program provides students with fresh and exciting learning scenarios each time they play!  Windows users must have Windows 95 or higher.

I Love Math (by DK Multimedia)

Elementary:  Increase understanding of concepts such as fractions, geometry, and measurement through a time-travel adventure.  Children will develop the real-world math and critical thinking skills essential to success in school and beyond.

Money Challenge (by Gamco)

Elementary:  Students learn key skills in counting money by working with realistic money.  Key skills include counting pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, half dollars, and dollar bills and deciding if there is enough money to buy an item.  Correct answers allow students to play a tic-tac-toe game.

Math Companion (by Visions)

Elementary Teacher Resource:  This is a powerful numeric and word problem activity sheet generator, aligned with over 110 NCTM basic math objectives to produce custom masters in seconds.  Volume 2 contains over 100 objectives covering all the difficult-to-teach math concepts every elementary student needs to visualize.  It covers:  money, time, counting, place value, sets, fractions, and elementary geometry.
