I. Objective
After a teacher-directed
lesson on single-digit addition, which includes concrete,
pictorial, and abstract examples, Mrs.
Quick's first grade class will accurately
compute six of eight addition problems
using manipulatives.
II. Instruction
A.
Orientation/Anticipatory Set
1.
Introduce
objective and purpose for the lesson.
2.
Briefly
review numerals through ten.
3.
Introduce
students to manipulatives they will use to add.
B.
Lesson Development
1.
Explain
the word addition and the addition symbol.
2.
Demonstrate
how to solve the following problems:

Encourage
students to ask questions.
4.
Let
children solve four problems using manipulatives.

Observe
children and provide assistance as needed.

Use
magnets to demonstrate single-digit addition on the pictorial level.

Pass
out a worksheet. Children should be
allowed to use manipulatives if necessary.
8. Give students a quiz

Summarize
addition of single-digit addition.
2.
Assign
five practice problems for homework.
III. Formative Evaluation
A.
Check quiz expecting a minimum accuracy of six of eight. Provide
additional instruction for
children not achieving mastery.
B.
Check homework assignments for accuracy.
