Description of the Objectives:
Participants will:
  • review mathematics anxiety research results on a one-page transparency;
  • view a traditional multiplication lesson segment and compare it to a modeled lesson segment involving manipulatives and learning as understanding;
  • receive handouts involving Internet sites, an annotated bibliography for elementary mathematics teachers, and lesson plans involving the effective use of manipulatives.
Description of the Content:
The content for this workshop includes descriptors such as:  mathematics anxiety,

manipulatives, NCTM goals,  Bruner’s and Piaget’s stages of cognitive development,
