YAAC Donates to the Lincoln-Bridgeforth Park Christmas Tree Lighting

Lincoln-Bridgeforth Park Christmas Tree Lighting | Santa with the kidsAthens State University’s Young Alumni Advisory Council (YAAC) donated $500 to the Lincoln-Bridgeforth Park Tree Lighting Ceremony. At this beloved annual event, a tree is ceremoniously lit, cookies and hot chocolate are served, and Christmas carols are sung.

Also at the event, Santa distributes gifts to children from the Boys and Girls Club. Athens Fire and Rescue serves as the drop-off station for gifts, and firefighters and their spouses wrap the presents. City of Athens Communications Specialist Holly Hollman stated, “The smiles on the children’s faces when they receive a gift or bicycle is pure Christmas joy.”

This year’s tree lighting ceremony is scheduled for Monday, December 11 at 5:00 pm at Lincoln-Bridgeforth Park. YAAC has assisted with many events at Athens State and in the community since they were established in 2013. Members of the Council are comprised of recent graduates. Upon finding out about the need in the community, they worked quickly to approve the gift as part of their mission.
