About Dr. Joe Delap

Vice President for Academic Affairs / Provost

Since graduation with a doctorate in Germanic Studies (language, literature, and culture), Dr. Delap has served in various roles with increasing responsibility, including ESL Coordinator, Department Chair for Languages, Associate Dean for the College of Liberal Arts, Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dean of Graduate Studies, and Vice Provost. Publications and presentations at national and international conferences span such diverse areas as accountability and assessment in higher education, Caribbean studies, faculty dynamics, film studies, gender studies, international educational collaboration, Post-colonial studies, Renaissance studies, and research integrity. He has also enjoyed success in bringing Fulbright Visiting Scholars to the US and has been honored as a DAAD Fellow, Fulbright Japan International Education Administrator (Japan), Fulbright-Nehru International Education Administrator (India), Fulbright Teaching Fellow (Germany), and Fulbright Senior Scholar (Czech Republic, Germany, Poland).

Currently, as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Delap acts at the intersection of faculty, staff, and student communities and is primarily responsible for promoting excellence in all academic programs. His office creates and supports an environment that advances the University mission of providing high quality and affordable education to all qualified students. In close collaboration with the University Board of Trustees, the President, College Deans, faculty and staff, the Provost’s Office oversees the strategic planning of academic programs, policy development and review, program assessment and institutional effectiveness, and faculty and student development.
