Accounting Club Receives National Award at Institute of Management Accountants Conference

November 26, 2019

Members of Athens State’s Institute of Management Accountants Student Chapter (the Accounting Club) attended the Institute of Management Accountants Student Leadership Conference in Charlotte, North Carolina from November 12-16. The Athens State chapter was presented with the Award of Excellence for the organization’s efforts in 2018-19. The honor of the Award of Excellence is presented to only five chapters nationally and includes a monetary prize.

At the conference, students heard from a number of exceptional speakers geared specifically toward accounting students. The Accounting Club also competed in a T-shirt design contest and won. Athens State student, Savannah Smith, designed the winning shirt, which also came with a monetary award. The Dean of the College of Business, Dr. Kim LaFevor, was present at the awards ceremony in Charlotte. The Accounting Club is advised by Athens State professors Emily R. Corzine, Diann Hammon and Christopher Nelson.

Athens State Accounting Club membership provides opportunities for students to associate with practicing management accountants to see how they live, work, and apply their knowledge. Members also learn how seriously devoted professionals are to their field and to high ethical standards. To qualify for student membership, one must be a regularly enrolled business student carrying at least six semester hours of credit. The association requires an application in writing that is endorsed by a faculty member or the Registrar.
