Baily Ezell and Whitley Fleming, students in the art major, graphic design track at Athens State University have both won the first place prizes in two contests sponsored by Dr. Tesa Reeves, Family Dentistry. Ms. Fleming won first place and a gift package for the info- graphic design describing the 2014 Free Dental Day event held at the dental office.
Second place winner in the logo design was Hannah Busing, and third place winner was Alan Meeks. Second place winner in the info graphic design was Baily Ezell, third place winner was Savannah Cardwell and fourth place winner was Hannah Busing.
There were 16 entries in each category. Students created their design entries under the instruction of Professor Pamela Keller in Computer Graphic Design, a course that teaches advanced use of softwares for design. The course is held in the state-of-the-art graphic design lab at The Alabama Center for the Arts in Decatur, Alabama.
“Dr. Reeves held the design competition to help students get real-work experience with a client. Students were given a client brief, detailed instruction in the software and design process and a mid-work critique from the client. The fact that the client actually chose student work to be used in the professional setting was in addition to the student’s grade for the work. All these students should be very proud of their accomplishments and will have excellent pieces for their portfolio’s,” said Professor Keller.
