Constitution Day kicks off with a hot dog cookout in the Athens State Sandridge Student Center at 11:00 a.m. followed by a patriotic organ solo at noon on the newly renovated Tracker organ.  The Constitution Day Program will begin following the recital.  The public is invited to all events free of charge.

“This annual event is a favorite patriotic gathering for our community,” states Athens State’s Dean of Arts and Sciences Ron Fritze.  “Each year in celebration we offer a book scholarship contest for our students. The participants take a quiz on the constitution and the top performers have a chance to win up to $300 in bookstore merchandise.”

Featured speaker, Capt. Austin Boyd, USN (retired) will discuss the Constitution and why it matters in America today.  Athens State students who participated in the Constitution Day Trivia Contest will be recognized and the winners will be awarded bookstore gift cards.

Boy Scout Troop 240 will be on hand for a flag ceremony, Sons of the American Revolution will present voices of our forefathers, a vocalist will lead guests in patriotic songs, and all in attendance will be asked to sign a copy of the Preamble to the Constitution.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
