Erica Allen Supported Employment (EASE) and the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services (ADRS) teamed up with Athens State University on February 1 to host a Transition Mentoring Day for high school students with disabilities. The goal of the event was to make the shift from high school student to adult, a challenging feat, a bit more manageable.
Approximately 200 juniors and seniors from nine area high schools participated in the event. While on campus, the students had the opportunity to rotate through two 50-minute classroom sessions, a career fair, and a real-life financial simulation. These activities helped students learn about the importance of budgeting, how to perform well during an interview, networking skills, and disability awareness.
