Athens State University and the Alabama Center for the Arts are pleased to welcome Jessica Spowart as the new Assistant Professor of Art in Graphic Design for the College of Arts and Sciences as well as the Department of Visual and Performing Arts. Spowart earned her BA in Communications at the University of Alabama and her MFA in Graphic Design at Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia. She has over 12 years of experience working with industries as a graphic design freelancer in fields such as advertising and publishing. Over the years, Spowart has worked alongside nonprofit organizations and in higher education in areas including print production, brand development, digital ad campaigns, visual design, photography, motion graphics, video production, and presentation design.
Spowart’s teaching experience includes serving as an adjunct instructor at Sanford-Brown College – Seattle and Bellevue College in Bellevue, Washington. She also instructed multimedia and design workshops at the University of Washington Department of Communication in addition to supervising and helping develop their technology internship program. Spowart’s other accomplishments include being a recipient of the “Sappi Ideas that Matter” grant and being a member of the American Institute of Graphic Arts.
