    A degree in behavioral science, psychology, or sociology allows you to delve deep into the workings of the human mind and behavior, simultaneously gaining a comprehensive understanding of the social structures that shape our world.

    Program Options

    Behavioral Science

    The Behavioral Science degree program at Athens State University is committed to guiding students to become psychologically and sociologically literate citizens of the 21st century by providing a broad and balanced understanding of psychology and sociology as a social and natural science. Students pursuing a behavioral science degree gain knowledge, skills, and values consistent with the science and application of psychological and sociological principles.

    The behavioral science degree program emphasizes the value of psychology and sociology for developing insight into one’s own and others’ behavior and mental processes at the individual and institutional levels. In addition, the program focuses on recognizing, understanding, and respecting the complexity of sociocultural diversity.

    Psychology

    The field of psychology provides many opportunities for aspiring professionals like you to change lives. Whether focusing on mental and behavioral health, substance use disorders, or child advocacy, psychology experts are at the forefront of building healthier, more resilient communities.

    You have your choice of two degree options: the Bachelor of Science in Psychology or the Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. The BA option allows you to complete an approved minor and fast-track your path to graduate studies. The BS option does not require a minor and could be a better fit if you wish to enter the workforce immediately after completing your undergraduate degree.

    Sociology

    The Sociology degree program at Athens State University is committed to guiding students to a deep understanding of how society works by providing a broad and balanced view of sociology as a social and natural science.

    The Sociology degree program emphasizes the value of sociology for developing insight into one’s own and others’ behavior at the institutional level. In addition, the program focuses on recognizing, understanding, and respecting the complexity of sociocultural diversity.
