Huntsville Council Member, Mr. John Meredith, will be speaking at a Black History Month Lunch & Learn on Thursday, February 3 at 11:30 AM in the Athens State University Ballroom in the Sandridge Student Center. The event will be free and open to the public as part of the “Athens Forever” Bicentennial Series. Lunch will be provided.

Huntsville City Council President John Meredith is the son of civil rights icon James H. Meredith, the first African American to enroll and graduate from the previously segregated University of Mississippi.

Mr. Meredith’s first career was as a laboratory technologist. While managing a hospital-based clinical lab in Kansas, John participated in a Washington fly-in as a member of the clinical lab manager’s association to lobby against a bill that would eventually have a profound negative impact on the delivery of services to patients. He found the process fascinating and, after securing a master’s degree a year later, rededicated his professional efforts to government.

This event is featured as part of the “Athens Forever” Bicentennial Series and is offered to the public free of charge. Registration is required by 1/28 and can be completed on this site or by contacting University Advancement at advancement@athens.edu or 256-233-8185.
