SUMMARY:Soda Firing Workshop with Casey Beck @ ACA
DESCRIPTION:This four-day workshop\, February 22-25\, 2026\, will focus on the enigmatic surfaces produced through the process of soda firing. Participants will bring bisque ware to be fired in the kiln as bare clay or with a slipped surface and learn to load with the anticipation of the flame carrying the soda ash in mind. Work will be loaded closely\, tumble stacked\, and props will be made to direct flame movement throughout the kiln. During the firing we will cover the topics of soda ash introduction methods\, soaking and cooling the kiln to produce strong flashing and surface development on the work. The firing should yield a variety of colors and surfaces throughout the kiln ranging from browns and greys to reds and pinks. DESCRIPTION:The Curtis Coleman Center for Religion\, Leadership\, and Culture at Athens State University will host a Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration and Prayer Service on Thursday\, January 22\, at 9:30 a.m. \nThe service will take place in Founders Hall Chapel\, located on the Athens State University campus at 300 North Beaty Street\, Athens\, Alabama 35611. \nThis gathering will bring together members of the public\, clergy\, and community leaders for a meaningful moment of prayer and reflection honoring the life\, legacy\, and moral witness of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

DESCRIPTION:Athens State is pleased to host Light on the Land\, featuring the artwork of Athens State student Trevor J. Thomas. Thomas is currently studying at the Alabama Center for the Arts to earn his Master of Fine Arts in Painting. The exhibition will be on display from January 20 to February 27 at the Nazaretian Alumni Welcome Center on the campus of Athens State University. A Closing Reception will be held on Tuesday\, February 24 from 4:30 – 6:30 pm. \nDuring normal hours\, Nazaretian Alumni Welcome Center is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm.
