Kerner & Herring Win Best Paper Award From ICLAHE[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Laura Lynn Kerner, Associate Professor of Marketing and Management at Athens State University, and Dr. Susan Herring, retired Athens State librarian, recently received the Best Paper Award at the International Conference on Learning and Administration in Higher Education (ICLAHE) 2017 in Nashville. The ICLAHE strives to promote inclusiveness in research by providing a platform for individuals to share their research in academic or business-related topics regardless of the stage of research or research methods used.
After a two-stage review process in which the paper was reviewed by at least three peers, Kerner and Herring’s paper, “Sexual Assaults on College Campuses,” was chosen for this award and selected to be published in an upcoming issue of the Journal of Academic Administration in Higher Education. Their research addressed the startling statistic that the incidences of sexual assault on college campuses have not decreased over the last 30 years. One in four women are sexually assaulted, but only about 10% of these women report the assault.
To help combat this problem, Kerner and Herring’s paper proposed a detailed sexual assault prevention program for colleges to put into place. Kerner and her husband, Dr. Jim Kerner, Professor of Management at Athens State University, presented the paper at the conference. Due to high interest in the topic, they were allowed additional presentation time to answer the influx of questions they received.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
