Community Use of the Library – Athens State University

The Athens State University Library’s collections and services are primarily intended to support the research and classroom needs of Athens State students and faculty.  However, anyone is welcome to come into the Library and use its services and resources on the premises.  Reference materials and reference assistance from librarians are available to the public, as are two computers with Internet access.  A library card is required to check books out of the building.

Library cards are available free of charge to current Athens State students and employees, Athens State alumni, and current teachers in the Athens City and Limestone County school systems.  In addition, free library cards are available to current students of institutions with which Athens State has borrowing agreements: Alabama A&M University, the University of Alabama in Huntsville, the University of North Alabama, Oakwood University, Calhoun Community College, Wallace State Community College in Hanceville, Snead State Community College, Northeast Alabama Community College,  Northwest-Shoals Community College, and Faulkner University.  Patrons affiliated with these institutions should bring school identification as evidence of enrollment.

High school students and community residents who do not fall into the above categories may purchase an Athens State library card for twenty dollars.  Cards enable cardholders to check books out from the Library.  Cards remain valid for two years.  The checkout limit for anyone not currently affiliated with Athens State is three items at one time.
